Let me ask you something.
If you had to open this door with one finger, where would you push?
Unless you’re a super saiyan you would answer option 2.
Why?
Because it gives you leverage.
This leverage reduces the amount of effort you need to spend to get a result.
It gives you a greater effect for the same amount of effort.
Most people understand this real-life example, but they don’t know that it applies to their work as well.
This is why they keep working a job they hate without making a lot of money.
Passive income seems like some imaginary thing to them because they fail to understand one simple concept.
This concept is Digital Leverage.
It holds the key to earning much more and working less.
Einstein called compound interest the eighth wonder of the world.
Stijn calls digital leverage the ninth wonder of the world.
“Give me a place to stand, and a lever long enough, and I will move the world.”
- Archimedes
Leverage is how you do more with less.
Joe Rogan lost money with his first podcast.
But he makes a ton of money with his latest podcasts.
This is the power of leverage.
You do the same activity as before but get more results.
You want to do activities where your leverage increases over time.
You can increase leverage through:
You probably don’t have money at the start.
So labor and money are out of the question.
You either have to pick content or code.
These are permissionless forms of leverage.
You could start creating it today.
Code has a steep learning curve.
But you could start creating content today.
1. Pick your niche
Don’t overthink this.
Look at it as the thing you’re currently most interested in.
You can always change it over time.
Your niche evolves as you evolve.
It’s not about one topic but it’s about one transformation.
You can talk about any topic that’s relevant for making that transformation.
It’s all about your ability to persuade.
Reading the dictionary seems insane, but if MrBeast tells me it’s the key to getting 1 million subscribers on YouTube, then I will do it because I want that transformation and I trust that he can help me with it because he has already made this transformation.
So it’s not about the topic, but it’s about how this topic relates to the transformation you help people achieve.
But not all transformations are as profitable and desirable.
You want to make sure that it’s a transformation people actually want.
2. The Eternal Markets
The most profitable transformations are the ones that fix the biggest pain points.
People pay to have pain removed from their lives.
The most painful problems are related to:
These are the 3 areas in which people experience the most painful problems.
This is because they’re primal desires.
So start thinking of how you can help people solve a problem in the 3 eternal markets.
People will continue to have the same problems.
It’s your job to find your unique way of solving them.
Market saturation is only a problem if you’re average.
3. Write to one person
You need to write to your avatar.
This is a different name for your ideal reader, viewer, or customer.
There are a lot of complex frameworks to create this avatar.
But in the case of a personal brand, there’s one person you can help best:
Your past self.
You know exactly what problems you had and you know how you’ve solved them.
And guess what:
There are thousands if not millions of people with the same problems as your past self.
So by writing to your past self, you target the perfect audience.
You can help them best and you won’t feel like an imposter.
This is why your niche isn’t that important.
Your past self wasn’t interested in one specific topic.
He probably did want one specific transformation, but he also enjoyed learning about other related things.
So target your past self.
4. Study writing
Writing is the foundation of all content.
Everything starts with writing.
You can make any topic interesting if you learn to write well.
You need two things to write well:
It needs to be useful and look good.
Being useful is about giving the reader what he wants.
So the reason why they’re on social media.
This is to get:
So make sure your content does at least one of these things.
Bonus points for doing multiple ones simultaneously.
Looking good is about writing in a way to makes people want to read it.
Here are guidelines to do that:
5. Productize your mind
When you create content in the way described above, you will build an audience.
To monetize it, you need to create a product (or service).
I call this productizing your mind.
You take the lessons you’ve learned and turn them into a product that helps people learn what you know efficiently.
This is what the best books and courses do.
They give you years of information that you can consume in a few hours.
It’s a huge time saver for people.
And it allows you to make money by writing about what you love.
Win-win.
Building digital leverage and then productizing your mind is how you’ll win big in the next decade.
You get to spend your time on the things you want, from whatever location you want, and you make a lot of money while helping others.
This is the way of the digital creator.
The opportunity is enormous.
Make sure you seize it.
